Function call graphs

Expand callers and callees, trace edges, zoom and navigate to source.

Open the call graph

Place the cursor on a C/C++ function, then right-click and run Hornet Show Graph. The graph opens in the bottom Hornet Graph panel, with callers on the left and callees on the right.

  • Use the plus and minus buttons on either side of a function to expand or collapse that direction.
  • Expansion preserves the function's screen position and zoom while arranging new nodes around it.
  • The toolbar can expand all, collapse all, refresh or fit the graph to the canvas.
  • Drag empty space to pan; use the scroll wheel or toolbar to zoom.
  • Double-click a function to jump to its code, or choose Set as Center to explore from another function.

Trace a call

Hover over or click an edge to see a highlight move in the call direction. Click empty space or press Esc to clear the selection. Vertical segments align with the midpoint between adjacent function columns; overlapping edges keep their individual call relationships and highlight paths.

Each graph loads up to 250 functions. Explore large call chains in sections by changing the center. Recursion and external routing in very dense graphs follow dedicated rules.

Why relationships may be incomplete

Tag / Flyweight use syntax or lexical analysis and cannot fully resolve macros and types. clangd needs a valid compilation database, include paths and preprocessor macros. If definitions are missing, check thebuild configurationand parsing logs.
