Quick start

Download a VSIX, install the extension and open your first C/C++ project.

Before you begin

Install desktop VS Code 1.85 or later and open a trusted C/C++ project. The Hornet extension ID is hornet.hornet-cpp. Browser-based VS Code cannot run the local processes required by this extension.

Install the VSIX

  1. Go to thedownloads pageand select the correct OS and CPU architecture.
  2. Open the VS Code Extensions view and click the top-right … → Install from VSIX…。
  3. Select the downloaded file, then run Developer: Reload Window。
  4. Verify the installed version in extension details. For Remote SSH, WSL or dev containers, install the extension in the remote workspace environment.
code --install-extension ./hornet-cpp-0.0.4-win32-x64.vsix --force

Open your first project

Hybrid is the default and looks for a compilation database. Without one, Tag builds a basic index; files with compile commands can use clangd semantics. Windows x64, glibc Linux x64 and MacOS x64 / ARM64 can automatically download and verify clangd if missing. On other platforms, install clangd yourself or start with Tag / Flyweight.

During indexing, the status bar shows progress and file counts. When finished, it shows Hornet C/C++: idle. Right-click a function and choose Hornet Show Graphto view its call graph.

Updating later

Follow thepublic releases, download the latest VSIX and install it again. This channel does not update through Marketplace; confirm the installed version in extension details.
